Miami Beach, FL (February 26, 2025) – The Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) brought the ultimate side dish showdown to the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival’s (SOBEWFF) Heinz Burger Bash, introducing the Idaho® Potato Best Side Dish Award—a celebration of innovation, flavor, and the versatility of America’s favorite potato.

In its inaugural year, the competition challenged top chefs to craft standout side dishes using Idaho® potatoes to perfectly complement SOBEWFF’s legendary burgers. La Birra Bar and Chef Renzo Cocchia of Miami made history as the first-ever dual winner, taking home both the Idaho® Potato Best Side Dish Award and the Heinz Burger Bash People’s Choice Award in the same evening. Their winning dish, the Cheesy Jalapeño Hashbrown Bite, wowed judges and attendees alike with its bold flavors, crispy texture, and perfect balance of heat and creaminess.

“This competition showcased just how versatile and exciting Idaho potatoes can be,” said Jamey Higham, President & CEO of the Idaho Potato Commission, who was on-site presenting the award alongside Idaho Potato Commissioner Brian Jones. “It was incredible to see these talented chefs push the boundaries and create dishes that truly elevated the Idaho potato. And witnessing La Birra Bar take home both awards—what a moment!”

The event was a true celebration of culinary excellence, bringing together world-class chefs, food industry leaders, and thousands of attendees. Hosted by Rachael Ray, the Heinz Burger Bash and Idaho® Potato Best Side Dish Award competition took place against the vibrant backdrop of live music, top-tier food, and an electric festival atmosphere.
